CHURCH OF SAN BERNARDINO

Chiesa di san Bernardino (FRAZIONE BALZO) Erected in the 17th century, with a gothic entryway. The interior preserves locally quarried arenaceous stone columns and a high altar in marble. A large painting of the Saint as wall as various other paintings and a memorial tablet for Cardinal Taliani are visible in the interior of the church.

CHURCH OF SANTA MARIA IN PANTANO OR SANTA MARIA DELLE SIBILLE

Chiesa di Santa Maria in Pantano (LOCATION SANTA MARIA IN PANTANO) The foundation of the church appears to date back to the 8th century, although its origins are shrouded in legend. Chiesa di Santa Maria in Pantano - affresco della Sibilla Wall frescoes dating from the second decade of the 17th century are the work of Martino Bonfini da Patrignone. They represent the Sibyls (in ancient pagan times these are the women who are intermediaries between the gods and mortals, and possessed secret knowledge): Cumana, Ellespontina, Aggrippina, Frigia and Delfica.

CHURCH OF SANTA MARIA IN LAPIDE

Abbazia di Santa Maria in Rio Sacro (LOCATION SANTA MARIA IN LAPIDE) Likely erected in 1491 and under the jurisdiction of the Farfensi. It stands along the Rio stream, the principal tributary of the Fluvione. The church, originally belonging to a monastic settlement, was an integral part of a large complex of buildings that we can only begin to guess at today. A crypt from the 9th century and bronze bell from the 1400s with gothic inscriptions are the only remnants of the church.
