SAN GINESIO
COLLEGIATE CHURCH OF SS.ANNUNZIATA
CHURCH OF SANT'AGOSTINO
|
Originally in a Romanesque style, it was completely restored in1756, as indicated by
the inscription of the entrance doorway. Today it has been transformed into an Auditorium. The famous painting on
wood panel of Sant’Andrea from the beginning of the 14th century attributed to Nicola da Siena can now be found in
the Civic Museum.
Cloister of the Augustine ex-convent
The convent predates the 13th century, and today is the site of the “Istituto Magistrale and Liceo Linguistico
“A. Gentili”. In the courtyard of the cloister there is a well called “acqua di San Nicola”, and in fact the
famous saint was a novice in this convent. On the walls of the loggia are paintings illustrating the life
of Sant’Agostino.

CHURCH OF SANTA MARIA ASSUNTA
|
(Frazione Macchie) Ancient Benedictine Abbey of the Macchie; its existence is recorded
in the year 1171. The church, dedicated to the Assunta, has a single nave with a tribune of nine steps: two lateral stairwells
lead into the crypt, which is divided into seven small naves with brick columns, and various re-used Roman building materials.

CHURCH OF SAN FRANCESCO
|
Build in 1050 in the Romanesque-gothic style, it was dedicated to San Francesco.
It was the church of the assemblies because it was here that the people gathered to make important decisions,
and held the urn used to choose the five Defenders or Priors of the City. The area surrounding the church was
the quarter of the noble families, and S. Bernardino da Siena lived in the adjacent convent, which was later
transformed into today’s town hall. A magnificent doorway, with a profile characterized by corded columns opens
from the facade. Another testament to its past is the gothic apse with its slight arches and large trilobate windows.
In the interior in the neoclassical style hall there are paintings from the 1400s and 13th century frescoes of
the Riminese-Marchigiana school that illustrate scenes from the life of San Francesco.

SANCTUARY OF SAN LIBERATO
|
(location San Liberato)San Liberato wore the Franciscan habit in Soffiano, a wild forest
near Sarnano, where the remains of an ancient Benedictine convent can be found on the inside of a rocky cave.
Around the year 1260 (the year that San Liberato died) the brothers abandoned the inhospitable hermitage and built the present
day convent of San Liberato next to the church. They dug a tomb and transferred the bones of the brothers
(San Liberato and other pious men) that were exhumed in Soffiano. In time the convent took on the name of
the monk who left the most dignified and lasting memory of himself, and his name was: “San Liberato”.
Today his body is preserved in the crypt of the church that bears his name, together with the Beati Umile and
Pacifico : the three characters of the “Fioretti”. His memory is celebrated on the 2nd of August.
