Nature shrouded in history

The route begins in Preci, the main centre of Valle Castoriana, near the river Campiano. Its historic centre has a thirteenth century foundation, built around a Benedictine oratory, and it retains aspects of fifteenth century architecture characterized by a small group of houses built closely together. Going toward the Forca d'Ancarano the route enters the hamlets of Campi and Ancarano which both conserve important Roman history and many architectural “jewels", as well as art from various periods. A visit to the church of Madonna Bianca (XVI sec.) at S. Angelo is suggested, as well as seeing the evocative ruins of the castle of Castelfranco (XIV sec.) in Capo del Colle, and then the castle and the church of S. Andrea (XIV sec.) at Campi Alto (XIV sec.), as well as the church of S. Salvatore, characterized by two symmetrical structures built in different eras (XIV and XV century). Returning to Preci the route passes through the village of Acquaro located near the Benedictine Abbey of St. Eutizio whose origins date back to the fifth century. The abbey acted as a political centre and was a religious reference point for a vast territory.
