This long route, which starts from the area of Fiastra and Acquacanina, goes uphill and crosses the green mountain meadows surrounding the high valley of Fiastrone. On the hill above the village of Trebbio (near the town of Fiastra) there are the ruins of the Castrum Flastrae, a complex of buildings protected by towers and fortified walls, dating from the eleventh century. In the territory of Acquacanina, the smallest local authority of the Marche, there are the ruins of the castle built by the Varano family in the fourteenth century and the Abbazia di S.ta Maria di Rio Sacro (XI sec.). The pastures of Ragnolo, located between 1300 and 1500 meters, are bright with flowers in the spring, including many interesting species such as the eugenia, the elder-flowered orchid, the gentian, the old pheasant’s eye, the official wild peony, etc. Here one often sees skylarks, kestrels and buzzards. At the Forcella del Fargno, located at 1811 meters above sea level, the view takes in the expanse of the Val di Panico. This is a dramatic valley shaped by glacial and karst phenomena and dominated by the imposing rock wall of M. Bove Nord (2113 m.). Here you can spot the coturnici partridges and sometimes even the golden eagle. The descent from M. Coglia back towards Fiastra offers glorious views of the turquoise lake Fiastrone.
