On Magic Mountain
Lenght: 11800 mt.
Direction of travel: counterclockwise
Hiking time: 4h 10'
Difficulty : EE - For experienced hikers
Path: Rifugio Sibilla – Monte Sibilla – Rifugio Sibilla (155 - 156);
The path reaches the top of Mount Sibilla, the mountain that has evoked fantastic legends shrouded in mystery related to its inaccessible cave. Formerly the Sibyl was also a symbol for mother earth. In the Middle Ages errant knights and ordinary people believed that going to sleep in the cave would produce particularly revealing dreams. Doubtless the sublime beauty of the landscape encouraged these practices, as well as the belief in the presence of bewitching fairies.
STATUS OF THE ROUTE DETECTED AFTER THE EARTHQUAKE OF 2016
Nothing to report about the segment between Rifugio Sibilla to the top of the mountain if you go towards Monte Zampa (counterclockwise). Some rifts along the segment from the top to Cima di Vallelunga make the hike difficult. A compact gravelly way enables you to reach the starting point again.
