The pilgrim's and shepherd's path

From the historic centre of Visso, the route ascends Monte Careschio, and reaches the Plains of Macereto passing the famous Sanctuary designed by Bramante. Soon after there is the spectacular rock face of M. Bove North to admire, and then going around the Fosso La Valle, the route leads to Cupi.

Interesting aspects of the Mount Bove area include rock faces resembling those of the Dolomites, beautiful glacial circles in the Bove and Panico valleys and, at the highest points, wide pastures with numerous plant species characteristic of the Sibylline Mountains.

The path passes the Sanctuary of Macereto, built in the 16th century in the Bramantesque style of G.B. da Lugano, comprising a basilica and the adjacent Guaite Palace, enclosed by a perimeter wall with an internal portico that served as a refuge for the pilgrims and migratory herders.
